The Members-Only Problem: How Much UK Padel Can You Actually Book?

How many UK padel courts anyone can book, how many give members first pick, and how many are locked behind a membership, by operator and region.

Members book first 13%

The short version. Most British padel is bookable by anyone: 213 of 327 clubs are straightforward pay-and-play and another 41 let the public book after members have had first pick. 40 clubs are members only, and 33 don't say on their website.

The booking-window gap

Where a club publishes both windows, members can book on average 7 days earlier than the public. At busy clubs that is the difference between a 7pm court and a 3pm one. The longest gaps we have found are at Harrogate Spa Tennis Centre, Wakefield Sports & Padel Club, Hazlemere Tennis & Padel Club.

Which kinds of venue let you in?

School, college or universitys are the most open (100% bookable by non-members); health club or gyms the least (7%).

Members-only clubs we've verified

Listed so you know before you turn up. Each page links the nearest pay-and-play alternatives.

How we worked this out

Every club in these figures has been checked at its own website or booking listing: address, number of courts, whether they are indoor, covered or outdoor, who can book, and any prices the club publishes. Prices are converted to one comparable number, the cost per player for a 90-minute game with four players sharing the court, using the club's cheapest non-member rate for "off-peak" and its dearest regular rate for "peak". Member-only prices are left out of the averages.

Coverage. We have verified 327 clubs and 1,265 courts so far. The LTA counted 1,825 courts at 551 venues in May 2026, so our figures cover roughly 59% of venues and grow every time we add more. Treat shares and medians as a strong sample rather than a census until coverage is complete; the page recalculates itself on every update.

FAQs

Quick answers

Do I need a membership to play padel?

Usually not. 78% of the clubs we have verified let non-members book a court; 12% are members only.

Which padel clubs are members only?

Mostly private health clubs and some tennis and country clubs, where padel is a perk of a wider membership. Each club page says which kind it is.

What does "members book first" mean?

Members can book further ahead than everyone else. Where clubs publish both windows, members get on average 7 more days, which decides who gets the 7pm slots.
