Building a padel court

Britain went from 870 courts to 1,825 in eighteen months, and plenty of tennis clubs, golf clubs, schools and landowners are wondering whether they should be next. Here is what it costs, what planning involves, and how to compare quotes.

The short checklist

  1. Measure the site: one outdoor court needs about 20.8m by 10.8m once the foundation is included.
  2. Write a simple business plan: who will play, at what price, and how bookings will work.
  3. Budget, including VAT, fees, planning surveys and any canopy.
  4. Talk to your neighbours and a planning consultant early.
  5. Get a structural engineer to design the foundations and drainage, then tender to at least three builders on the same specification.

The steps follow the LTA's 2025 padel court construction guidance, which we summarise on the cost and planning pages.
